Alarm bell rings and continues to ring, according to the 2023 LNVH Monitor on Female Professors

On December 7, the Dutch Network of Women Professors (LNVH) will present its new Monitor on Female Professors 2023. This annual report provides insight into the progress of female representation in professorships at Dutch universities. Notably, this year’s growth rate of female professors is the lowest in eight years, with only a slight increase to 27.6%. This stagnation persists despite the significant presence of female talent in academic ranks, such as in the role of associate professor. Additionally, the monitor identifies a projected increase in the retirement of male professors aged 60 and older.

The findings emphasize that while some progress is visible, gender parity in professorships will not be achieved until 2045 without accelerated action. The LNVH calls for additional measures and a committed focus on fostering inclusive and safe academic cultures to support the advancement of female talent. The full monitor offers in-depth insights, including data on contract types, salary equality, and the international background of academic staff.
