How long until women are equally represented in science?

Three Australian researchers estimate how long it will take before there is equal gender representation in various STEMM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine). After analyzing PubMed and arXiv files from the last 15 years for representation of women, a prediction was made for the future. One of the conclusions is that the gender gap will persist for several generations of researchers, mainly in surgery, computer science, physics, and maths. The researchers also investigated the position of women in author listings (senior vs. junior) and prestigious journals. The authors used these data to build an interactive tool.
